After hearing the sad news about Peru here is a story to cheer you up. When we visited India last year  we met up with our friends at the Martha Clinic. Hearing Ruth tell us how they had been praying for this clinic for over twenty years was quite a moving experience. Realising that God had given us the opportunity as a congregation to to help support and bring about this work was not only an inspiration it was also a great responsibility. One of the issues that...

[gallery] Here I am reporting the devastating news. One of our homes for abandoned boys in Peru has been washed away by the severe flooding which has taken place in the "Sacred Valley". Fortunately the boys were all on holiday at Kawia and the home was empty. The home was recommended to be built on the banks of te river because it was thought to be completely safe. When I visited the home in March 2009 there was a rainbow in the sky. A sign of God's promise...

Wrestling with God

I was recording some pocasts for the Sanctuary First website yesterday, the theme was all about struggle and wrestling with God. I was amused, while flicking through Youtube to come across a group of people who believe in "Christian Wrestling". Well to say they believe in wrestling might not be quite right. They certainly are seeking to share faith with those who are in the wrestling scene. It all seemed a bit incongruous to me at first sight. It just seems a bit...

Effective Faith Sharing in the Workplace

Following on from my last post. I wonder if the Christian Community in he UK and in Scotland needs to be more pro-active to support and encourage Christians to live out the Gospel in the workplace. I really don't think we need to be over zealous and be "in people's face" because there are always natural opportunities to talk about faith issues where ever you find yourself. Take for instance a conversation I had with someone trecently about disabled parking spaces. They...

Do we define the space or does the space define us?

I was walking past a couple of elders as they talked in church on Sunday . I couldn't help but overhear their conversation. They were talking to each other about the challenges that face them in the workplace. I stopped and listened to them as they began to share with me some of the issues that face them as Christians at work. One of them said to me " I feel like two different people there's the professional me and then there is the guilty Christian me" It got me...

I received this story in an email, I usually just delete stories like this however I'm glad I had a read at this one. I checked it out on Youtube and have put the video as one of my featured videos this week. "Washington, DC Metro Station on a cold January morning in 2007. The man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time approx. 2 thousand people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. After 3 minutes a middle...

Being is Communion

[quicktime]http://video.standonline.org.uk/blogs/COMMUNIONsmall.mov[/quicktime]Today is Communion Sunday at St Andrew's Bo'ness. For some of you who don't know too much about the Church of Scotland you might be a little surprised. For you every Sunday is Communion Sunday. Well in the Church of Scotland most congregations celebrate Communion four times a year. In more recent times some congregations have also added a monthly evening Communion Service. The question...
