From California to india

Yesterday we visited St Andrew's and caught up with some friends. We spent some time at the St Andrew's Bay Golf Club. It was a fantastic day with great views over the bay. Have a look at these pictures. When it comes to the golf I'm afraid I'm absolutely useless. I remember going to play golf in California with this amazing guy I met called John. I first met him when he came to hear me preach in the Grace Presbyterian Church Vista California in 1993. I always remember this guy sitting in front of me with his tartan tie. He had come especially to hear me preach simply because I was Scottish and he was missing home. He was a fascinating character. He was a bit of an inventor and a good golfer. He was determined to make his fellow Scot into a golfer. So I remember being taken all round this amazing golf course at 6.00am in the morning to play golf. Well I never really succeeded, but a big thanks to John for trying anyway. Talking about Grace Presbyterian, they were a great bunch of people, who really welcomed us as a family. I remember I was there for six weeks and I preached through the book of Ephesians, a chapter a week. Those were the days. I don't think they were used to expository preaching and 40 minute sermons but they endured it, I think they liked the Scottish accent. Maybe one day we'll drop in on them. Anyway this Summer we're heading out to India to catch up with some of our friends in Chennai and the surrounding area. I'm especially looking forward to seeing the Sangita Orphanage coming near to completion. We just need to pray for the additional money that is needs to complete the complex. This is going to be an amazing trip catching up with some of our Indian friends and being inspired by their deep Christian commitment. There will also be a big celebration of the life and influence of Bishop Lesley Newbign taking place in chennai this September. Unfortunately we'll miss it. Lesley Newbign was a church of Scotland minister before becoming a bishop in the Church of South India. I hope to call with the Bishop of Chennai and find out more about thhes celebrations.
