I get the feeling Jesus wasn’t so big on party politics, and more into truth and unity. A true centrist, not so much as sitting on the fence but bridging the divide and trying to get all the members to work together for a greater common purpose. While I as a person of faith believe that Jesus IS the son of God. There is also part of me that thinks that Jesus was one of the first modern Statesmen/Diplomats. He’s like the ultimate negotiator and intermediary, which was after all pretty much the point of his birth in the first place.
Then again I really dislike religion and politics being put together. It only causes bad things. The virtual theocracy of America during the Bush years being a rather obvious modern example from a Christian perspective. I really disliked the way they invoked Jesus for political gain, especially when I wasn’t convinced that Jesus would like some of what these people were doing and saying in his name. I’m particularly glad that it is not much of a problem in this country. Though the whole Northern Ireland thing still rears its ugly head from time to time with supposed Christians killing other supposed Christians over a political cause.
