Record a song. Take the Salute at The Tattoo, and go to the Olympics?  All in a days work!

I heard the ting from my phone and to my delight, there was the finished master files of the next Bogle Band Album.  Its just amazing how technology works today.  The songs have got to be registered with PRS and PPl  but that shouldn't  take too long.  Hopefully if we get organised there will be opportunities for those who attend the concerts on Sunday and Monday  of next week , to get some copies. If not at least place an order. I'm looking forward to sharing songs that reflect the idea of heart and soul. There's a song called "Dream on brother" it was recorded on the Brave album of 1995 . I hope to include it in the set list.  the song  reminds me of the day I was standing in a rubbish dump literally at the edge of the rain forest. On one side was a massive piece of land polluted with garbage . You could stand at the edge of a shear drop and look into the lush green vegetation. When you turned around there were dozens of people working through the garbage looking for something that had value. i remember talking to a Peruvian man who sang a song for me to video camera. He then told me that his dream was to be a singer one day and escape from the trap of the garbage dump.  The song dream on brother speaks to people like that and says don't give up. Its all go again. Yesterday  evening we were at the Tattoo.  watched   General, Sir peter Wall the Chief of the British Army take the salute. I watched intently because I'll be doing it next Thursday. every so often the spot light lands on the salute taker. At which point you have to acknowledge the salute. Now the question is do I simply  do a very prestigious nod in recognition of the salute  or do I take a three cornered hat and raise my hat to the performers? Let me know what you think.  It was in truth a fantastic evening and it highlights just how good we are in this country at putting on set events. Its a massive undertaking to put such a show on week in week out for the whole of August. I'm still quite excited about trying to encourage the idea of a great songs of praise on the esplanade during the  Edinburgh Festival.  Who knows we might pull it off for next year. We had a wonderful time at the Tattoo.  I really think sitting in the box where the salute officer is seated. It  must be the best position of all to see the Tattoo.   Finally , its good news I'm off to the Olympics on Thursday morning to pay a visit to the athletes village and to catch up with Neil Urquhart, who is  the minister in Fullarton Parish in Irvine. Neil is one of the official chaplains as well as being chaplain to kilmarnock Football Club. .  Its going to be a great privilege to be there and to represent the church and to bring the best wishes of the Church of Scotland to our Scottish athletes. How magnificent to hear about the golden post boxes. This is the one painted in Edinburgh in honour of Sir Chris Hoy.  I think this must be one of the proudest post boxes around! I believe there is talk of putting an extra surcharge on all mail posted from this box. Joking apart I think it is important that Christian leaders encourage the positive feelings that people are experiencing at this time. its always easier to be cynical and see the down side of an event. What is important is that we find ways in our local communities to encourage young people to take up sport not simply that they might win medals but that they might enjoy sport for what it is.  We need to be reminding people that God has made us to enjoy life. looking at some Christians you'd think the opposite. So get out there today and make the most of your day. Enjoy doing something. You can make a start by enjoying have a smile to yourself! You could always paint your garden gates gold as a sign of solidarity and an act of faith that one day you'll be going through the golden gates! Sorry are they pearly gates?  Could someone let me know. I don't want to go into the wrong place.

Hello Faser

Just worried that I might look like a pirate. Hope your well. I met up with one of your congregation at the Tattoo on Monday night she was singing your praises. I felt proud to say Fraser! I know Fraser!

By all means - cheer them and raise your hat! What a lot of work is going into a good tattoo!

Glad to hear you’re going to make it to the Olympics after all.  You’ll love it - it’s truly electric.  Will look out for you at the Olympic Park tomorrow smile

Albert, Moderator, it has to be the three cornered hat! Give it some style! Don’t dumb everything down like the rest of society in Scotland does! Flair and style, and you have both, as well as a lot of substance!
