Turn On the Light

During Advent I'm going to be preaching on the Prologue to John"s Gospel. There is always something new and exciting to be found in the Bible, very often in the familiar passages. There is quote in the prologue that says " the light Shines in the darkness and the darkness has tried to put it out. Nothing changes in our world. Time and time again those of us who want to follow jesus, do we not we find ourselves confronting the darkness? There is something comfortable about staying in the dark. How many times have you hid your head in the sand because you couldn't face the truth. Here's a wee video we put together one year to illustrate the point. Facing up to the truth Is too hurtful Keeping everyone and every thing in the dark Is more convient Lord give me the courage to switch the lift on

It is hard to face the truth. If we put the blame on others (back with the travellers in Aberdeen), quite often we are shying away from the fact that we are most likely to blame for the very same things.

It is very difficult to see the good in others as it implies that we ourselves are possibly not of comparable goodness.
