Waking Up To Face A Challenge

On Wednesday morning of this week I was faced with the task to end all tasks. It was a task that grown men have been know to refuse point blank. This task would make heros and even generals run for cover. The task was far beyond my experience and capabilities. I even shudder now as I think of the magnitude of the request and the trust that was placed upon my shoulders. You are asking me what was the task? Well it was to bake a cake. Not any cake but a chocolate fudge cake. Now this cake was not to be baked for any old person, it was backed for SJs birthday. Baking a cake is a very stressful experience especially if you are working against the clock. As Martha left for her work she pointed to the ingredients laid out on the breakfast bar and to the recipe. Its all there follow the instructions and you can't go wrong. Well that sounds simple I know, but there are aspects of cake baking that go unsaid, for instance how high should the sponge rise, and for how long do you beat the butter and the eggs, or as they say, how long do you cream the butter and eggs? I can tell you i went through a few stressful moments but I eventually got there and as you can see the above picture records for posterity my first attempt at cake baking. Well how did it taste? well I'll leave that for others to comment, but one person who tasted it said it was the mother of all chocolate cakes! It made me feel good. I felt I had achieved something. Its amazing the conversations that can be entered into once you've baked a cake. You should try it. taking about
