Preacher John Reconstructed 25 Years Later

You may recall a few posts back that I was telling you all about the story of Preacher John. Well here is the reconstructed version of the song 25 years later. This is the song I wrote for John Stuart’s Induction yes 25 years ago. I grateful to my songwriting partner Iain Jamieson for putting down the soundtrack and for the creative input of Campbell Dye a past member of the Bogle Band and who worked on the keys and fills. Let hear what you think of this version. Personally I think I might sing the lyric a wee bit to aggressively, but I think when we come to the end of the song we engage with a really interesting vibe. Anyway its not meant to be a perfect work of art just a tribute to a good friend. However Iain and myself are determined to get another album out before the end of the year.

Bogle Band On The Waverley

Well you may recall that I mentioned a few weeks ago that the Bogle Band had started gigging again after having a few years off,or as they say in the business “resting”.

Well here is a short video of the trip we made “doon the watter” and the music in the background is the Bogle Band playing the song “Brave Hearts” live. If you like what your hearing you can hear us playing again this Saturday at St Andrew’s Bo’ness. We’re playing at the “There Must Be More Festival” There’s a barbecue in the church garden at 6.30pm and the concerts starts at 7.30 in the church.

We’re also delighted that Vangel will be performimg with us. The whole weekend Festival is trying to encourage more people to think outside the box and discover their potential. On Friday Night a number of young peole who were in India visiting our partners there will be giving their feedback on their trip. I think its going to be a great night. On Sunday I’m looking forward to having a joint Praise Band, made up between St Andrew’s and the Apostolics in Bo’ness leading us in a gread night of praise and worship. So if you want something more than you’ve got ! See you Sunday Night.

Meanwhile pray for an old rocker who seems to be turning a bit folky with age, pray that he’ll remember his words on Saturday or have good inspiration to write better words.

A Song For The Gathering

GatheringTwenty years ago Iain Jamieson and myself wrote this song. For a number of years it was a kind of theme tune for the Bogle Band. We used to close concerts with it and I know it has touched many peoples lives. I remember singing it in Union Street Aberdeen. We were playing at a Pentecost Rally organised by the churches in Aberdeen.The street was closed off and a few thousands people turned up to participate. Now twenty years on I think the song has a significance once again. In just a few days people from all over Scotland will be coming to the CWW National Gathering in Edinburgh. Many people are coming to tell their stories of faith and renewal, others are coming to be encouraged. Some will be coming out of a sense of duty, while others will come with a sense of expectancy. I’m sure what ever the reasons , God is at work in all our hearts. making us see things in a new way. it is my prayer that everyone to comes to Ingliston might encounter the presence of the living God. I’ve been encouraging people to look at the whole faith story that is encapsulated in the tents. Its not just our local stories we are telling, its the story of a people longing for intimacy with God down through history. This longing led Israel out to the wilderness, where they had to eventually face a journey for forty years because their was disbelief in the camp. They lived in tents to remind themselves that they had no abiding city in this world. Surely we are being continually reminded of our calling as Christians. We have to live expecting the return of Jesus while preparing for the long haul involved in just being a waiting people. Anyway there’s a crowd of people out their who will be making their way to Ingliston, on Saturday and Sunday. I want to welcome them and remind them that this is going to be one of the best events ever and we all need to be there. You know something the most important person of all is going to be there JESUS! So lift your banners, pull them out and bring them on down to the Gathering.
