So Why Are You Carrying This Burden?

IMG_0907.JPG Its amazing what you see on the road when your out and about around Bo'ness. I'm staggered at the weight of things that get transported on our roads.  Here's a steam engine being pulled by a lorry. The lorry is having a rest in a lay-by outside Bo'ness. Got me thinking about the shear weight of troubles and worries that we all transport around in our lives. We literally carry rubbish in our heads and feelings in our hearts  that should have been dumped years...

I've been working on the the sermons for Sunday. Struggling a wee bit with the theme for Sunday morning which is entitled "Facing the Single Life" i guess I'm becoming aware of the breadth and depth of the topic. People are so different, their approach and attitude may depend  on their age, their sex and whether they have chosen to be single .  I can imagine the feelings  will  be quite different for people  who are single, following on from a divorcee, or a...

IMG_0916.JPG Went out for a meal tonight and on the way back I couldn't help noticing that the local countryside is really quite magnificent. I had a really creative day yesterday. Putting together the themes and topics of the sermons and services as we plan ahead for the next nine months. It a great feeling when you've been able to find a format and a number of themes that all fit into each other. I just hope the congregation enjoy what I've decided work on. I'm also looking...

crtoonab The post code lottery came to Bo'ness last weekend. I believe around 1.5 million pounds was distributed among my fellow towns people. Although I don't do the lottery myself, I do wish everyone who won something well and hope that they can enjoy the windfall. Someone once said to me  recently, so if you don't do the lottery will you accept lottery money, and my answer is yes. You see I believe that  the lottery is a bit of a tax on the poor.  Too often it is the...

streetboys-wsi Tonight we had our India group committee meeting. It was an opportunity to try and disburse some the funds we've been gathering for the Indian Projects. There is just so much work to be carried out and not enough resources to go round. I've chosen this picture to describe how I felt tonight. So much work to be done and so many opportunities to help but just mot enough money to go round. I took a picture of these street boys the last time I was in India. The best they...

From California to india

Yesterday we visited St Andrew's and caught up with some friends. We spent some time at the St Andrew's Bay Golf Club. It was a fantastic day with great views over the bay. Have a look at these pictures. When it comes to the golf I'm afraid I'm absolutely useless. I remember going to play golf in California with this amazing guy I met called John. I first met him when he came to hear me preach in the Grace Presbyterian Church Vista California in 1993. I always...
